The new EU Elevator Directive and the new 2017 standard EN 81-20&-50 will be enforced in April 2016

With the increase of elevator accidents, people pay more and more attention to elevator safety. The standard regulations of the elevator industry will be further improved after 2016.

Recently, TUV SUD Greater China Group (hereinafter referred to as "TUV SUD") successfully held the seminar on the new directive and standard of elevator of European Union in Holiday Inn of Great Wall, Shanghai. Ms. Shen Zhiying and Mr. Wu Weijun, Engineers of Elevator and Crane Division of TUV SUD, gave a detailed interpretation of the new EU Elevator Directive 2014/33/EU and the new elevator standard EN 81-20&-50 type test specification. The guests are all well-known enterprises from the elevator field, as well as the long-term good partners of TUV SUD. Mr. Chen Chen, Senior Manager of Industrial Service Department of TUV SUD, and Mr. Wang Peng, Manager of Elevator and Crane Division of Industrial Service Department were present.

In 2014, the European Union issued the new elevator standard EN 81-20 and the safety Code for elevator Manufacturing and Installation EN 81-50, which redefine and upgrade several important areas of elevator from the perspective of the basic requirements of elevator components and the whole elevator, design, calculation, inspection and certification. At this stage, the standard will be parallel to the current EU elevator standard EN 81-1 &-2. By August 2017, the existing standard, EN 81-1 & -2, will be obsolete. From September 2017, the new standard EN 81-20&-50 will become mandatory and all newly installed elevators in the European Union must comply with this standard. At the same time, the new Elevator Directive 2014/33/EU, which was issued in 2014, will replace the existing elevator Directive 95/16/EC from April 20, 2016.

Enforcement of the New Elevator Directive of European Union and 2017 New Standard EN 81-20 & -50 in April, 2016

The 2017 New Standard EN 81-20 & -50 would be enforced since September, 2017, requiring every piece of vertical-transportation equipment to reach. Simultaneously the New Elevator Directive of European Union, the 2014/33/EU, is about to substitute the current 95/16/EC directive in April, 2016.
