Why are Canadian elevators serviced every month
The number of elevator safety accidents in Canada is very small, which is inseparable from the Canadian government's attention to elevator safety. From the elevator maintenance date, maintenance personnel set to the popularization of elevator safety education, Canada can be said to walk in the forefront of the world.
It is reported that in order to improve the safety of the elevator, as early as 1997, the Canadian government has established the elevator Technical Standards and Safety Certification Organization (TSSA), the Canadian national elevator safety hazards investigation. This year, the TSSA set a new security schedule that will allow three types of elevators to be serviced regularly: roller elevators to be serviced at least once a month, van elevators to be serviced every two months and industrial elevators to be serviced at least once every six months. Some large shopping malls, subway stations and other crowded areas, TSSA will also increase the number of maintenance depending on the situation. During each overhaul, TSSA staff will not only overhaul and maintain the various equipment of the elevator, but also provide safety training to the engineers, cleaning personnel, property managers and other people responsible for the daily work of the elevator, and introduce in detail the operation specifications of the elevator and the handling methods of emergencies. TSSA will not only set up a fence around the elevator, but also send two staff members to stand guard around the elevator to remind passers-by to go around. TSSA will also post a notice on each floor one week in advance when the elevator is to be serviced, informing it of the date and expected duration, etc. Wait for maintenance, each floor of the elevator will be set up in front of the obstacle signs with "maintenance".
In addition to regularly repairing stairs, the Canadian government has also put elevator safety education firmly in the hearts of every resident. To this end, a non-profit organization named "Escalator Safety Foundation" (EESF) has been established in Canada. The organization is mainly funded by the major escalator companies in Canada. Every year, the organization publishes new elevator safety guidelines and other publicity materials and distributes them free of charge to communities, primary and secondary schools across the country. In recent years, EESF has also launched an education program called "Safe Elevator Users" to educate primary school students aged 8 to 10 on the 11 rules of safe elevator rides, including the 7 rules of escalators:
Be quick and careful when going up and down escalators; 2. Do not push the escalator in the stroller; 3. Always hold the handrail of the escalator; 4. Check that clothes and shoelaces are not too long or loose; 5. Hold an adult's hand; 6. Don't touch the sides of the escalator; 7. Stand quietly and face forward on an escalator and the four rules of a van elevator: 1. Watch your feet when entering or exiting the elevator; 2. 2. If the elevator stops and the door doesn't open, press the emergency button and wait quietly. 3. Do not block the elevator door when it is closed; 4. In case of fire, always use the stairs. The EESF has also created an eight-minute video showing the 11 points in the form of songs and animations for children to remember.
Early last year, Canada had its first elevator accident in 25 years. Therefore, in order to ensure the safety of the elevator, Canada currently overhaul the elevator takes as long as 3 to 5 months. The Canadian government said it would rather delay the journey of passers-by than have a similar accident happen again.
